Story from an Adoptive Parent
“Every adoption story is bittersweet, ours included. My husband and I were unaware until the final adoption decree in court, 2 months after our daughter was in our home, arms, and hearts, that it was a CLOSED adoption. The agency had shared some non-identifying information with us that we shared with our daughter from the time she could talk. She grew to be a very curious, downright nosey, person who with the aid of the internet started searching for birth family on her own. It’s amazing how much you can find; privacy doesn’t really exist in our world today. But self-searches are also scary. So I went through the Court system. The Court Appointed Confidential Intermediary gave us the same information she had found with gave us the courage and confidence to pursue a connection. The safety net this program provided was a God-send!”
