Since Illinois created the Confidential Intermediary Service in 1990, hundreds of adoptees have used the program to find their birth families. And many birth parents have been able to reunite with their birth children.
About 9 or every 10 searches located birth relatives, although some were found to be deceased. The chart shows how birth relatives responded. In most cases, at least
some information was exchanged. For many,
the process resulted in a face-to-face reunion.
Of course some cases did not turn out as hoped and a positive outcome cannot be assured for your case. You can, however, be confident that your CI will use every available resource to attempt to identify and locate your relative.
