After the Petition is filed

  1. The Court considers your petition and makes a decision regarding the appointment of a CI.
    • If the petition is properly completed and you are an adult adopted or surrendered person, an adoptive parent or legal guardian of a minor adopted person or a birth parent, an order will be granted designating a specific CI to serve on your behalf.
    • If you are in the category of relatives eligible to file, but who must explain to the Court the reason for filing and the Judge rules favorably, an order will be granted designating a specific CI to serve on your behalf. If not, you will be notified that an order was not granted. Should that be the case, you are welcome to call the CISI Program Coordinator to discuss what options might be available to you.
  2. The Court will then send copies of the Order of Appointment to the CISI Program Coordinator at Confidential Intermediary Services of Illinois. It is not unusual for several weeks to pass before the Order is received by CISI. In some cases, you may receive a copy of the Order of Appointment before CISI has received the case from the Court. If you receive an Order but do not receive a packet of information from CISI within three weeks, please contact the CISI Program Coordinator at 847/298-9096 x34. We will contact the Court to attempt to determine the reason for the delay.
  3. Within two weeks of receiving the case from the Court, CISI will send you additional program information and a service contract. As soon as you sign and return the contract your case will be sent to your Court appointed Confidential Intermediary.
